COOLY's HOT BOX is soul. COOLY's HOT BOX is funk. COOLY'S HOT BOX
is jazz. COOLY's HOT BOX is dance. Self-contained soul band COOLY'S
HOT BOX blends seamlessly soul, dance, funk and jazz to form a
sound uniquely their own. COOLY'S like their predecessors, EARTH,
WIND and FIRE, RUFUS and MINT CONDITION combine many influences
in a very natural way.
COOLY'S HOT BOX represents a new wave of urban artists on the scene.
They generate their own material in a truly organic way, with live
instruments, strong songwriting identity and personal points of
view that are highly artistic driven, all in the true spirit of
rhythm and blues.
The COOLY HOT BOX sound has reached people worldwide. Their song
"DON'T THROW MY LOVE AROUND" which was featured on a
compilation entitled "GIANT STEPS" (1993) had its keyboard
arrangements sampled by dance music king ARMAND VAN HELDEN for
his hit "FUNK PHENOMENA" which has sold over 800,000
units worldwide.
In the past couple of years COOLY'S HOT BOX has toured throughout
the US and CANADA extending their fan base throughout the east
coast. COOLY'S has shared billing with such notable acts as BB
KING, INDIA ARIE, A TRIBE CALLED QUEST, GURU, and the NEVILLE BROTHERS.
Group members CHRISTIAN URICH, drummer and founder, as well as ANGELA
JOHNSON, lead singer, already have developing solo
careers. CHRISTIAN featured on the highly anticipated ROGER SANCHEZ
project has also worked with OSUNLADE, ERIC BENET, KENNY LATTIMORE
and DJ SPINNA. CHRISTIAN is also featured as a writer, drummer
and vocalist on saxophonist TOPAZ' upcoming project for EMI-TOSHIBA
(JAPAN).
ANGELA wrote and produced "ANGEL" a #1 single in JAPAN
for Japanese superstar DOUBLE (For Life). ANGELA also has worked
on remixes with DJ SPINNA for URBAN SPECIES (TALKING LOUD UK) and
KOJAK (POLYDOR FRANCE). She also produced her single "ORDINARY
THINGS" which went #1 in a couple of markets around the US.
COOLY'S debut full-length cd runs the gamut from energetic danceable
soul tunes like "MAKE ME HAPPY" and "TAKE ME HOME
TONIGHT", heartfelt ballads 14hrs and "I'm IN LOVE WITH
YOU," to their own contributions to the neo-soul sound with
the keyboard percussive driven "HAPPY FEELINGS" and the
smooth funk of "SIMPLE"
COOLY'S HOT BOX debut full length project entitled "TAKE IT"
was released in the summer on WOOD RECORDS in JAPAN and this fall
on DOME RECORDS in the UK. The U.S release will be on the HIGHER
OCTAVE label in JANUARY.
